“Guys today i am going to show you how to paint some watercolor florals. I i just wanted to get back to doing a straight up how to paint x. So today. I m actually going to be using the watercolor texture that i made in my last video available to download for free below.
And then i m going to be using one of my favorite brushes available for purchase from this genius named addie. She has this flow watercolor brush. But first i am going to show you how to tweak it to get the absolute best effects. I m going to duplicate the brush and this is going to be something that you can apply to any brushes that you might have that you want week.
I got a little bit into brush making in my last video and kind of want to show you guys what i do to make them work. The best for me. The number one thing that i like is stroke taper. Which is when you tap on a brush.
Which i always duplicate a brush before i adjust anything so that i can go back to the original without reinstalling. It when you tack on a brush. It immediately takes you to the stroke panel. Here and then second box here there are some adjustments that you can make so.
What i like to do is pull the straw paper from start all the way to max and end all the way to max and then the size here is going to indicate how narrow it gets i ve been getting your end of the taper and so here s where you can see those adjustments really starts taking place. There. So i m gonna go well i got halfway through a 60 here and the other thing. I m gonna do just to give this a real smooth look is turn on streamline.
This is a procreate that sort of self corrects your strokes. A little bit makes a little less jacob just smooth them out. When you have a brush that s all the way here and i m painting with white. This is usually something that people do for calligraphy um.
Because i don t know if you can tell it just kind of guides your line that you re drawing. But i don t want it all the way i still want more of an organic nature to it so we re gonna try about 50 and that s all i m gonna do to this brush. I think. It is just about perfect as is you can see the shape that used here is a super realistic like this is i think one of the most realistic watercolor brushes and then the grain source gives it this modeled effect that you really like when i use this brush.
I do the least post processing tip any of my watercolor now to get started. This is what i m going to be using for most of this tutorial. The other brush. I am going to use is my hard edged brush that i will link below as well that you can use down them and let s stay with this nice green color.
I m just going to start off by painting some nice stems and so by adjusting that brush just to give you kind of a look at what it was before and i m also reading this before it s not that different a little more thick on each end. And then you can see it doesn t have the quite same smoothness that had by turning on the streamline between the brush having its own model texture. I m just playing around here to try to get the feel of what size. I want to go with here and then my watercolor paper texture having these two color bird layers.
You really get a super realistic. Watercolor bleed effect. Without doing anything extra. Which is always great because more time saved means more time to paint.
And so this is a really pressure sensitive brush. Which i like and i really like the link. It said before the shadings of brush really makes the edges the painting seem even more realistic. Some new shapes and then part of the reason.
Why i make a lot of digital art as opposed to actually painting with paints is that i sell clipart and so i will end up digitizing it either way so this really saves. Me an enormous amount of time to have it all digital. I have to pull it into photoshop and remove the white background either way. However having these hp individual elements to begin with is a lot easier easier to move a digital paper background.
That it is a real paper background. I still do both but i found that this for my workflow saves. Me the maximum amount of time so this is what some stems. What the leaves look like if you want to do maybe some over more grassy look here maybe go just like palm you re like this brush is really conducive to ferns again just by making those little adjustments to the taper.
It gives me a nice finish every time. I make a move here. Which is amazing i share. My brushes that i make because they re free and i want to give an option.
But i think that these are really amazing resources and i can t recommend her highly enough she also makes videos showing you how to use four brushes systems. These lives definitely leave a comment below if you re interested in more of the process of me making my clipart and what i do with it after this because usually what i do is i just paint a ton of elements. And and then i pull them together and compile them into nice little wreaths afterward kind of a post processing. Thing and then people it s so funny when i this is not my full time job definitely not i tell people at work occasionally when they asked that i make clipart.
I think they automatically think of the like the microsoft clipart for like 1998. And it s just it s just a funny thing to tell people that you do on the sides alright. So i feel like that i ve got a minor injury. Now i want to show you kind of what she s just pink.
This is i think a really rich brush and i don t know it acts differently on whatever texture you re using. But on this i think even the light blush colors that might not show up as well and other brushes show up super well so to start doing this peony. I think i ll be okay. I don t see i m just gonna start by little pieces middle again pressure sensitive so when you see this brush.
You know getting super thick. Even though. I have it on a a smaller size that s because i am using more pressure. And i can t really show that you know they feel it florals for me archer here.
I find that i do have a lot of undoing. And maybe it would be a little more natural if i didn t so it goes. It s yellow to the cinders and some days when i am a lighter color on top. I like to work on a separate layer because it it doesn t it stands alone a little better and again as a more full color.
So by doing that you really get the full register of the color and you can merge it down. And it ll still maintain that integrity so when i go back to blend a little more then make it look more realistic it ll still have that more pigmented look. Which is great so pinch to merge and i think i want to color and you see nothing changed from the look of it. Which is great so i can just kind of start to flood.
These together a little bit and really get that lila this looks pretty good. The only other thing that i will do here well. Maybe. I ll blend put some of these strokes together just a touch yeah not too much.
But i do want to make it look a little softer lee is with cheeks it out of looking sub digital. It just depends on what you re going for so i like to soften. It a bit all right so the only other thing at this point. That i do is i go back and select the original colors that are painted with and go into my lillie.
Hard edged brush and the opacity down to size about 3 4. Of the way down. I m going to go in and just add some hard bleep lies. So let me know if you have any questions.
